Problem with Computer Name and NetbootGUID

Apr 5, 2010 at 7:34 PM

Using IE7 and going to the page http://mywdsserver/MDT2010WS/ad.asmx?op=GetComputerNetbootGuid I can query ADUC using GetComputerNetbootGuid and the Netboot GUID is returned properly.

But if I use the returned "00000000-0000-0000-0000-0019B94788C4" with http://mywdsserver/MDT2010WS/ad.asmx/GetComputerNameByNetbootGuid no name is returned and no errors are reported on the web page.

If I take out the dashes it still doesn't work,

There is a domain controller at the current site where I am running the above web pages from. But this DC is not a Global Catalog server and is also not the Primary DC.  All DCs are Windows 2003 R2 servers. What I have noticed is that on the local DC (for this subnet) ADUC doesn't show the "Remote Install" tab so the UUID is not visible. However the WDS server, which is also atthis location, is Windows 2008 R2 with ADUC snap in loaded and using this, I can see the Remote Install tab and the UUID.

I am wondering if the UUID is only available from the Primary DC/GC and wondering if the problem is because the local DC is not a Primary DC?

I am not using SCCM or ConfigMgr only MDT 2010 loaded on the WDS server.

Any ideas?

This is a bug in that specific function. A patch is available and will be published together with some additional functions during the next 1-2 weeks. If you need to get an immediate solution just contact me directly and I will send you the current beta files.

Problem should be fixed with version 7.0. See http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/maikkoster/archive/2010/04/17/deployment-webservice-version-7-published.aspx for details.
