Change Application Pool Settings for the Webservice

It`s necessary to have your webservice running under a different User Account than your Default Websites. First to have a clean separation between the webservice (and maybe also the MDT Web FrontEnd) and your other Web sites. Second to give it the necessary permission it requires to do it's job. On default, the webservice will use the User configured for the application pool of the webservice for authentication. Especially all SCCM related functions are using WMI calls to the SCCM Servers, so you need to configure it with an account which has the appropiate permissions. On default it will use the same account also for the Active Directory calls and for the MDT Database calls (to use the configured account set the "MDTDBIntegratedSecurity" Application Setting to "True"). But if necessary you can configure different accounts for Active Directory and MDT Database calls.

To create a new Application Pool you need to
  • Open IIS Manager
  • Expand your Webserver Node
  • Right click on Application Pools and choose "Add Application Pool..."

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • Supply a name for the new Application Pool and click on OK

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.

Now you can configure this Application Pool to use a Different User Account for running your Webservice. To do this
  • Open IIS Manager
  • Expand your Webserver Node and click on Application Pools
  • right click your Application Pool on the right side and choose Advanced Settings...

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • In the Process Model area click into the Identity field and then click on the ... Button

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • Choose Custom account and click on Set...

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • Enter a valid Username and Password

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • Click OK, OK

If you haven't configured your Webservice to use this new Application Pool
  • Open IIS Manager
  • expand your Webserver node and Sites node
  • expand your Default Web Site node
  • Right click on the MDT FrontEnd folder and choose Manage Application - Advanced Settings...

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • In the General area click into the Application Pool field and then click on the ... Button

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • choose the appropiate Application Pool

Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
  • click OK, OK

This process is missing a step. You must first convert the folder to application. Perform the following: Right click MDT Front End folder > select "Convert to application". Now you can continue the next step which is "If you haven't configured your Webservice to use this new Application Pool" You are welcome!

Hi,

I was wondering what permissions and user rights are required to run this applicationPool?

Regards,

Images are missing from instructions. Error message is "Cannot resolve image macro, invalidimage name or id."
